Heat Pump Installation

Authorised installers across the Waikato, King Country, Coromandel & Bay of Plenty

Mitsubishi Electric GS50 heat pump installed in a modern light-filled living room

Done properly, the first time

A heat pump only delivers the efficiency, comfort, and longevity it was built for if it's installed properly. Wrong capacity, poor placement, or shortcuts on the refrigeration work, and you're paying extra on power for the next 15 years — or worse, replacing the unit early.

Airmax has installed thousands of heat pumps across the Waikato over 15+ years. We're licensed, insured, authorised by Mitsubishi Electric and install every major brand, and we don't sub the work out. The same team that quotes your job installs it and stands behind it.

FAQ

Heat pump installation questions

How much does heat pump installation cost in NZ?

Heat pump installation in NZ typically costs $2,500–$4,500 for a single high-wall unit installed, $5,000–$8,000 for a multi-zone system, and from $10,000 for a fully ducted system. Final pricing depends on the unit, install complexity (pipe runs, electrical work, mounting location), and capacity required. Airmax provides a fixed quote after a free site visit — no surprises on invoice day.

How long does a heat pump installation take?

A standard single high-wall heat pump installation takes about half a day (4–6 hours). A floor console or ducted system is more involved and may take a full day or two depending on the property. We confirm the timeline as part of your quote.

What are the requirements for installing a heat pump?

You need a suitable indoor location (away from direct sunlight, with airflow), an outdoor space for the condenser unit (well-ventilated, ideally shaded), an electrical supply within reach, and a path for the refrigerant pipework. We assess all of this during the free site visit and let you know if any prep work is needed before installation day.

Do you install heat pumps in Hamilton, Cambridge, and Te Awamutu?

Yes. We're based in Te Awamutu and install across the Waikato — including Hamilton, Cambridge, Otorohanga, Te Kuiti, Raglan, Morrinsville, and Matamata — plus the King Country, Coromandel, and Bay of Plenty.

Which heat pump brands do you install?

We're an Authorised Mitsubishi Electric installer; we also install Daikin, Hitachi, Fujitsu, and Panasonic. We'll recommend the right brand and model based on your room size, layout, and budget — not whichever has the highest margin for us.

Can I install a heat pump myself?

No — heat pump installation in NZ requires a licensed refrigeration technician and a registered electrician. DIY installs void the manufacturer warranty and are illegal under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act because of the refrigerant gas. Always use a qualified installer.

Do you offer finance for heat pump installation?

Yes — we can arrange finance options through our partners so you can spread the cost. Talk to us during your free quote and we'll walk through what's available.
