Heat Pump Servicing

Annual maintenance to keep your unit efficient, quiet, and under warranty

Skip a service, pay later

A heat pump that's serviced annually runs more efficiently, lasts years longer, keeps its manufacturer warranty intact, and costs less to run. One that isn't serviced loses 15–25% efficiency within a few years and dies early — usually right when you need it most.

Annual servicing pays for itself in lower power bills alone. Add the avoided emergency callouts, extended unit life, and warranty protection, and it's the highest-ROI thing you can do for your heat pump.

What's Included

Every Airmax service covers

  • Indoor unit deep clean — filters, fan, evaporator coil, drain tray
  • Outdoor unit clean — condenser coil, fan, mounting check
  • Refrigerant pressure check and top-up if required

  • Drain line flush and unblock
  • Operational test on heating, cooling, and defrost cycle
  • Written report with any issues flagged for the future
Why It Matters

What annual servicing actually buys you

Lower power bills

A clogged filter or dirty coil can cut efficiency by 15–25%. A serviced heat pump uses noticeably less power for the same output.

Longer lifespan

Annually serviced units routinely last 15+ years. Neglected ones often need replacing inside 8–10. Servicing is the single biggest factor.

Warranty protection

Most manufacturer warranties (Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Hitachi) require regular professional servicing. Skip it and a future claim can be denied.

Better air quality

Heat pumps that aren't cleaned regularly grow mould in the drain tray and on the evaporator coil. That mould gets blown into the room you're sitting in.

Catch problems early

A failing capacitor or a slowly leaking refrigerant line is a $200 fix when caught at service, and a $1,500 emergency callout when it isn't.

Quiet operation

Build-up on the fan blades causes vibration and noise. A clean unit is noticeably quieter — especially in bedrooms.

FAQ

Heat pump servicing questions

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Once a year is the manufacturer recommendation across every major brand — Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Hitachi, Fujitsu, and Panasonic. If your heat pump runs heavily year-round (small business, rental property, or your only heating source), some installers suggest twice a year. For most NZ homes, annual servicing is enough.

How much does heat pump servicing cost?

Standard annual service for a single high-wall heat pump is typically $150–$220. Multi-zone or ducted systems are more (usually $250–$400 depending on the number of indoor units). Cleaning-only services are slightly less if no diagnostic work is needed.

What's included in a heat pump service?

A full service covers: indoor and outdoor unit clean (filters, coils, fans, drain tray), refrigerant pressure check, electrical connections inspection, sensor calibration, drain line flush, and full operational test on heating, cooling, and defrost. We send you a written report after.

What's the difference between heat pump servicing and a clean?

A clean is just the surface stuff — filters, visible coil, drain tray. A full service includes all of that plus the diagnostic work: refrigerant pressures, electrical, sensor checks, operational tests. Clean-only is fine between full services; full service is what manufacturers require annually.

Do you service heat pumps near me in Hamilton, Cambridge, or Te Awamutu?

Yes. We service heat pumps across Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Otorohanga, Te Kuiti, Raglan, Morrinsville, Matamata, plus the King Country, Coromandel, and Bay of Plenty. We can usually fit you in within the same week.

Can I service my own heat pump?

You can clean the indoor filters yourself (every 1–2 months in dusty environments — pull them out, vacuum, rinse, dry, replace). But the full service — coil cleaning, refrigerant check, electrical inspection — needs a licensed technician with the right tools. DIY refrigerant work is illegal in NZ.

How long does a heat pump tune up take?

About 60–90 minutes for a single high-wall unit. Multi-zone or ducted systems take longer — usually 2–3 hours depending on the number of indoor heads.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance plans?

Yes — we have annual maintenance plans that include scheduled servicing, priority booking, and discounted repairs. Talk to us when you book and we'll find the right plan for your setup.
